Arthritis is a group of conditions that cause inflammation, pain, and stiffness in the joints. It can affect one or multiple joints and may worsen with age. There are more than 100 types of arthritis, with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis being the most common.
Symptoms of Diabetes
Symptoms vary depending on the type of arthritis, but the most common signs include:
Joint pain (especially after movement or rest)
Swelling and tenderness in the joints
Stiffness, particularly in the morning or after inactivity
Reduced range of motion
Warmth or redness over the affected joint
Fatigue or general weakness (common in rheumatoid arthritis)
Joint deformities (in advanced cases)
Causes of Diabetes
Arthritis can develop due to wear and tear, autoimmune disorders, infections, or metabolic abnormalities. The main causes depend on the type:
1. Osteoarthritis (Degenerative Arthritis)
Caused by wear and tear of cartilage — the cushioning material between bones.
Risk increases with aging, joint injury, obesity, or repetitive strain.
2. Rheumatoid Arthritis (Autoimmune Arthritis)
The immune system mistakenly attacks the joint lining (synovium), causing inflammation and joint damage.
Factors include genetics, hormonal changes, and environmental triggers (like infections).
3. Gout (Metabolic Arthritis)
Occurs when uric acid crystals accumulate in the joints.
Triggered by high-purine diets, alcohol, obesity, and certain medications.
